To mark Women’s Month, the Ardhi Gallery Online Marketplace is presenting a digital exhibition titled “Her Wellness, Her World.” The exhibition spotlights women contributing to Kenya’s art industry and explores themes of identity, wellbeing, and personal expression.
Gemini Vaghela (b. 1980) is a Kenyan mixed-media visual artist working across painting, photography, and wearable art. Her work explores themes of self-awareness, environmental preservation, and humanity’s relationship with nature through layered materials and abstract forms.
She works with mixed media including acrylic paint, ink, sand, paper, sawdust, and spray paint to create textured compositions that invite reflection on social and environmental issues.
Vaghela practiced as an artist in Perth, Australia for several years, where she was part of the Blender Art Gallery community and participated in annual exhibitions. After returning to Nairobi, she continued to exhibit both locally and internationally.
Her work has been shown at venues including the Nairobi National Museum, Banana Hill Art Gallery, Kuona Trust, and The Souk Gallery. One of her artworks was featured in the official press release for UN Expo Milano 2015, and her work has been shortlisted in the Art Revolution Taipei competition. She has also participated in global art events such as the Amref Artball in New York.
Beyond painting, Vaghela creates wearable art scarves and fabrics printed with her hand-painted designs bringing her environmental messages into everyday fashion.
She holds a degree in Interactive Multimedia Technologies and a Diploma in Photography, which inform her interdisciplinary artistic approach.
Anisa of the Sunflowers is an emerging contemporary artist whose work sits at the intersection of symbolic storytelling and expressive abstraction. Her artistic journey is deeply personal, drawing inspiration from nature, memory, and the emotional landscapes of everyday life.
Through her sunflower-centered practice, Anisa seeks to create artworks that offer moments of light, reflection, and encouragement, reminding viewers of the beauty in persistence and the quiet power of turning toward the sun.
Anne Mwiti is part of a growing generation of Kenyan artists contributing to the vibrant contemporary art scene in Nairobi and across East Africa. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and art spaces locally, gaining recognition for its distinctive style and emotional warmth.
Through her practice, Mwiti seeks to create artworks that uplift, inspire, and celebrate the strength and beauty of African women, while inviting viewers to connect with the stories and identities reflected in her paintings.
